Kontrast

A singularity escape on the edge of Hobbs State Park — cabins, a dry sauna and a cold plunge, a climbing wall, a theater, fire pits and miles of trail. Somewhere to put the screen down and feel human again.

The idea

A singularity escape.

Fourteen wooded lots and a fifteenth parcel that is the private road itself — fifteen in all, ours — pressed against the 12,000+ acres of Hobbs State Park and just over the bridge from Beaver Lake. The plan: a place to unplug — cabins to sleep in; a dry sauna, a cold plunge, fire pits and a hair-washing station to slow down at; water massage, a sensory-deprivation float pod, facials and lashes to be cared for; a yoga studio, a climbing wall and an indoor/outdoor gym to move in; co-working spaces for the days you do need to plug back in; e-bikes and the Monument Trails out the door; a theater for movies and live events when the sun drops; and a deck for when Orion climbs straight overhead. Even a spooky hay ride come fall. Analog, on purpose — somewhere to come down from the cloud. Two locals will greet you: Sky the dog and Kingsley the cat.

The build

What's coming to the land.

Planned
The Cabins · stay
Across the parcels · nightly, in time

Cabins tucked into the trees to sleep in — the anchor of the whole escape, with the trails and the lake out the door, and co-working space for the days you can't fully unplug.

Planned
Holistic health · slow down
Dry sauna · cold plunge · hair-washing · fire pits

A dry sauna to sweat in, a cold plunge to shock you back to life, a hair-washing station to be cared for at, and fire pits for the long end of the night. Hot, then cold — the reset. (The whole point of the name, really.)

In planning
Planned
Be cared for · the spa
Water massage · float pod · facials + lashes

A water-massage table, a sensory-deprivation float pod, and facials and lashes — the kind of care you'd usually drive to the city for, tucked into the woods instead.

In planning
Planned
Movement · wake up
Climbing wall · yoga · indoor/outdoor gym · e-bikes

A climbing wall with bouldering, a yoga studio, an open gym that spills outside, and e-bikes for the Monument Trails right off the back of the land.

In planning
Planned
Gather · after dark
Theater · stargazing · scavenger hunts · hay rides

A theater for movies and live events, a stargazing deck for when the sky goes full Orion, scavenger hunts through the trees, and — because why not — a spooky hay ride come fall.
